Young Leaders

Young Leaders is a fantastic scheme which supports 14 – 18 year olds that want to give up time to help lead the younger sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

See some photos from the 2011 County Young Leaders Camp to see what Young Leaders get up to...

We think West Lancashire has one of the best Young Leader schemes in the country, and this is why:

  1. Overall more than 75% of our Explorer Scouts are also Young Leaders at some point
  2. Those Young Leaders who don’t attend another Explorer Scout Unit, often do attend events like County Explorer Camp
  3. We recruit new members into Scouting when DofE students join to so service as a Young Leader
  4. We have 10 ESL (YL)’s across the county, supported by DESComm’, DC’s, GSL’s and section leaders, all of whom support our Young Leaders

Some positive feedback from our Young Leaders:

“It’s great to be helping scouts enjoy themselves the way I did as a scout”

“I enjoy the responsibility of looking after the beavers”

“I love helping plan and run the programme”

“I like being treated like an adult and working with the other leaders”

The site has copies of different presentations and plans for delivering the training modules, as well as space for leaders to add ideas, advice and any other information. Please go to Training Materials on the menu bar to download all training information.

Finally, there is help and information to support the Young Leaders through their mission badges and ultimately to receive the Young Leader belt. Please go to the Young Leaders Awards page on the menu bar to download all the information you need.
