This award scheme is specific to Explorer Scouts that are young leaders.

To gain the Young Leader Badge they must complete Module A.

To gain the Young Leader Belt they must complete all the training modules and the four missions. Details of the missions can be found in the downloads from this page. Details of the training modules for ESL(YL)’s can be found by looking at the Training Material section of this site.

A Young Leader is automatically working towards these top awards.

For the Bronze DofE or Platinum Chief Scouts Award you must undertake 3 or 6 months of volunteering. For the Silver DofE or Diamond Chief Scouts Award you must undertake 6 or 12 months of volunteering. For the Gold DofE or Queen Scout Award you must undertake 12 or 18 months of volunteering.

Activity Permits

A Young Leader, just like an Explorer Scout, can choose to take out activity permits so they can assist in the running of adventurous activities. If you would like more information contact the West Lancs ACC Activities, Joe Ashworth, joe.ashworth@scoutmail.org.uk

Other Explorer Scout Awards

Young Leaders can get involved with other Explorer Scout Awards, including all the activity awards, partnership awards, staged activity badges and so on. Some of these map directly to the Young Leader Scheme, so for example Module K (First Aid) also meets the requirements for Emergency Aid Stage 4.
