Environment Weekend

Summary

Basically the weekend is spent working on jobs with an environmental theme.

What's happening this year?

Applications are now open for this year's event. You can visit the Environment Weekend 2011 page and download the Pre-Event information right now...!

What's it all about?

Basically the weekend is spent working on jobs with an environmental theme, i.e. Tree planting, trimming of overhanging branches, conservation projects, dry stone walling etc. All this can be linked to the Programme Zones - Environment, Community Service and Skills.

But it’s not all hard work as there will be music and entertainment on Friday and Saturday night. The programme for the weekend is roughly, arrive Friday evening and pitch tents, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning we work on various projects.

Due to the large numbers of people who attend we ask you to bring some tools with you eg. Spades, picks and bush saws.  You may also want to bring gloves and other Safety equipment (and that’s only for the food !)

You will also need a tent and sleeping bag etc. You won’t need any cooking equipment but please bring a knife, fork and spoon, plate, bowl and mug as meals and brews will be provided. A tea towel would be useful if you don’t want to eat off wet plates.

Who is it for?

The Camp is only for Explorer Scouts and their leaders, so if you're not in the Explorer Scout Age range (14-17) then you can't come I'm afraid!

When is it?

Environment Weekend is usually the third weekend in October.

Where is it?

It's always at Great Tower Scout Activity Centre in the Lake District.
